General Diagnostic Tests

Hematology

Hematology is the study of blood and blood disorders. Hematology tests include tests on the blood, blood proteins and blood-producing organs. Hematological tests can help diagnose anemia, infection, hemophilia, blood-clotting disorders, and leukemia.

  • Plasma. This is the liquid component of blood in which the following blood cells are suspended.
  • Red blood cells (erythrocytes). These carry oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body.
  • White blood cells (leukocytes). These help fight infections and aid in the immune process.

Antibody/Serology

An antibody or serology test is a blood test that looks for signs of a previous COVID-19 infection. It detects antibodies, which are proteins in the blood that fight-off infection. Antibody testing has a lot of promise because it will help us understand the pervasiveness of COVID-19 in our communities. Antibody serology tests check for the presence or level of specific antibodies in the blood. Antibodies are proteins that your immune system makes to fight foreign substances. These substances are often pathogens, (disease-causing germs) such as viruses and bacteria. When you have an infection, your body makes antibodies that are targeted to those pathogen. These antibodies may protect you from getting another infection or from getting severe symptoms.

Microbiology

Microbiology is the scientific study of microorganisms. It includes the identification and categorization of pathogens present in specimens taken from the body (such as urine, blood, throat, sputum, wound, urethra, vagina, cerebrospinal fluid). The following are examples of infectious diseases diagnosed by identifying pathogens present in a specimen:

Urinalysis is the physical, chemical, and microscopic analysis of urine. Tests for physical analysis of urine includes: Color, Appearance, and Specific Gravity. Tests included in chemical analysis are: pH, Specific gravity, Glucose, Protein, Ketones, Blood, Bilirubin, Urobilnogen, Nitrite, Leukocytes. Tests included in microscopic analysis of urine are: Red blood cells, White blood cells, Epithelial cells, Casts, Crystals

Cytology

In the lab, cytology deals with the detection or presence of abnormal cells. These tests include chromosomal studies and a Pap smear. The TORCH screen is a group of blood tests. These tests check for several different infections in a newborn. The name of the test comes from the initial letters of the five disease categories. The TORCH test measures the levels of an infant's antibodies against five groups of chronic infections: toxoplasmosis, other infections, rubella, cytomegalovirus (CMV), and herpes simplex virus (HSV).

Infertility

Infertility is the inability of a person, animal or plant to reproduce by natural means. It is usually not the natural state of a healthy adult, except notably among certain eusocial species (mostly haplodiploid insects). It is the normal state of a human child or other young offspring, because they have not undergone puberty, which is the body's start of reproductive capacity.

Cytology

Aside from tissue biopsy, cytology serves as an indispensable tool in screening and diagnosing cancer. In this technique, a cytological material is obtained from the patient, spread onto glass slides for microscopic examination, stained, screened for abnormalities and assessed prior to the issuance of a final report.

  • Non-Gynaecological Cytology
  • Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology

Genetics Tests

Genes are DNA instructions that we all inherit from our parents. Different “mistakes” in our genes, called mutations, can cause different diseases. Some of these diseases are rare, like cystic fibrosis or Huntington’s disease, others are common, like cancer. Genetic tests can be used to confirm the diagnosis or give you information about possible development of a disease.

  • DNA Sequencing
  • Cytogenetics (Karyotyping and FISH)

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions

1. Should I worry about my cholesterol?

Cholesterol is a necessary fat substance that helps our bodies build cells and make hormones. However, excess cholesterol can clog arteries and lead to heart disease. Elevated cholesterol can be caused by genetic history or diet – like too much red meat or fried foods. Keeping an eye on your cholesterol and checking with your provider can help ensure a healthy lifestyle.

The common cold can get in the way of our daily routine, but when should you see your provider for it? Viruses cause colds, and there’s no treatment for viruses. However, there are over-the-counter medicines, like decongestants, that can provide relief from symptoms. If you develop a cough, high fever, or facial pain, schedule an appointment with your provider to ensure it’s not a more severe health issue.

No matter how early we turn in, sometimes it can be hard to get the sleep we need. In order for our bodies to perform well, providers recommend 7-9 hours of sleep per night. The most common reasons people can’t sleep are caffeine, nicotine, or certain medications. Eliminating caffeinated drinks after noon can be beneficial toward your sleep routine.

There’s no certain treatment to prevent cancer, but there are habits that increase your risk of cancer. Avoiding habits like smoking, which contains harmful chemicals, can reduce your risk for cancer. Taking care of your body and avoiding excess use of alcohol can also reduce your risk for cancer.

Most of us have a gap in our diet that vitamins can fill. Multivitamins, in particular, can improve memory and mood, decrease the risk for some diseases, boost your immunity, and more. If you don’t get enough nutrients from food alone, vitamins can be beneficial to your overall health.

1. Do you charge extra for home sample collection?

No, we generally do not levy any home collection charges. However, a nominal fee is charged if your order is below ₹499 and your blood sample pickup timeslot falls during our peak service hours (6am-10am). These charges will reflect in the final payment page.

Our sample collection process is extremely safe and hygienic. All our phlebotomists are diploma holders in lab technology (DMLT) and highly skilled at their jobs. Our propreitary SmartPrik technology ensures that your blood sample collection process is almost painless.

The date and time of your sample collection will be messaged along with booking details immediately post booking. You will also receive intimation about the phlebotomists arrival prior to your alloted sample collection time. You can also connect with your phlebo over a call, on their phone number that you receive in the SMS.

Our phlebotomists apply a barcode label to your sample immediately after collection. With the help of our Blackcode technology these unique barcodes are identified, thus there is no chance of samples getting mixed.
